FORMERLY a director of the club, George now oversees Middlesbrough's renowned Middlesbrough Football Club in the Community project.  

He was initially seconded from ICI and joined the board of the club in 1994.

"The two memories of my time that stand out are the last game at Ayresome Park and the opening game at the Riverside because that's what I was brought onto the board for, to guide us into the new stadium," he says.

George was awarded the MBE for Services to Sport in the Queen's birthday honours list on Saturday June 13 2009.
