WILLO FLOOD tonight put his hands up and admitted his "wonder goal" owed more to luck than judgement.

The diminutive Dubliner's attempted cross deceived Swansea goalkeeper Dorus De Vries and looped over him into the top right-hand corner of the goal.

And honest Flood admitted the goal surprised him as much as anyone inside the Riverside.

He said: "I shanked the life out of it! It was a cross. I put my hands on my head thinking it had gone wrong but then it's ended up in the net.

"The lads have given me plenty of stick but we were due that bit of luck.

"I don't get too many goals, but I got Goal of the Season at Dundee - but I meant that one!"

Flood was relatively pleased with his home debut as injury-hit Boro fought back to draw with the high-flying Swans and he enjoyed his first taste of Riverside action.

"The lads have grafted for the gaffer and I thought the fans were good," he said. "I've heard good things about the fans here.

"There were a few empty seats this time but hopefully we can get the results to bring the fans back.

"We can be in the play-offs but we need to get a few wins, sooner rather than later. Otherwise we'll let it slip.

"We need to keep working on the training pitch but Gordon Strachan will definitely turn things around. He's a top, top manager and Middlesbrough are so lucky to have him here."
