A FULL international with Australia, Brad had to wait patiently for first team chances because of the form of compatriot Mark Schwarzer.

Formerly with Bayswater in his native West Australia, he unexpectedly found himself on the bench for the first team for the trip to Fulham in January 2002.

Although he didn't actually see first team action, he retained his place among the subs for a further four games, showing the faith then goalkeeping coach Paul Barron and manager Steve McClaren had in his ability.

During the 2003-04 season he was a regular fixture on the bench in the absence of regular reserve Carlo Nash through injury.

He made his first team debut in a 2-0 FA Cup win over Notts County in January 2004, retaining his place for the 2-1 league win over Fulham before Mark Schwarzer recovered fitness and reclaimed the goalkeeper's jersey.

Tall and agile, Brad was a a member of the Boro side which reached the semi-final of the FA Youth Cup in 2000 before losing out to eventual winners Arsenal.

Represented Australia's U20 side in the East Asia Games in Osaka in May 2001 and helped the U23 side reach the quarter-finals at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

Having made one appearance on loan at Stockport during the 2002-03 season, then at Blackpool in 2003-04, Brad spent the early part of the 2004-05 season back on loan at Bloomfield Road, making 12 appearances in his second loan spell with the Tangerines.

He returned to Boro and was thrust into the first team spotlight for the home game with Arsenal when Mark Schwarzer suffered a back spasm during the warm up.

He again deputised for Schwarzer towards the end of the 2005/06 campaign after the club's senior goalkeeper suffered a serious facial injury in a clash with West Ham's Dean Ashton in an FA Cup semi-final at Villa Park.  During that season he played four games in the UEFA Cup, including the semi-final against Steaua Bucharest on a memorable evening at the Riverside.

Jones then went on loan for the first three months of the 2006-07 season playing 15 games for Sheffield Wednesday.

His first international start came on February 5 2007 in a 2-1 defeat against Uruguay.

Brad started in goal for Boro in the opening day win over Spurs in the 2008/09 season after battling with Ross Turnbull to replace Mark Schwarzer, who joined Fulham in the summer of 2008.

After dislocating a finger in the warm-up at Anfield before Boro's opening away game of that season, Jones lost his place to Turnbull and, occasional cup games excepted, did not regain it until the end of January 2009.

However, once he returned he kept Turnbull out of the side for the remainder of the campaign.

In January 2009 Brad signed a new three-and-a-half year deal that will keep him at the club until 2012.

Injury during the summer of 2009 meant Brad missed the start of the campaign proper and such was the form of new signing Danny Coyne he had to wait to get back between the posts before finally establishing himself as  number one choice under Gordon Strachan.
