SEB made a remarkable start to his Boro career when scoring on his first team debut to help the team record a 4-3 win over Hull City in an FA Cup third round replay at the Riverside.
A talented and adaptable defender with an eye for goal at set pieces, Seb has already made an impact for England at U16, U17 and U19 level.
His potential was recognised when he captained the U16s in the Nordic Tournament in Finland in May 2003. He also scored and skippered the side in a 3-1 win over France in the Pepsi Tournament in England.
He travelled with the first team to Newcastle at the end of the 2004-05 season to gain experience, although he didn't make the final squad.
Seb's progress was interrupted by a serious knee injury suffered in October 2005. That kept him out of the game for much of the season but he returned to full fitness hoping to make steps towards the first team.
He was included in Gareth Southgate's squad for Boro's pre-season trip to Holland in summer 2006 and was an unused sub in a 1-0 home defeat against Notts County in a second round Carling Cup tie on Wednesday September 20 2006.
He then capped his full debut with the first goal of the game during Boro's 4-3 FA Cup win over Hull City after a mazy run through the Tigers' defence.
But his early Boro career has been hampered by a string of injuries, including an arm broken three times and a knee ligament problem which prematurely ended his 2007/08 season.
He signed a new deal in February 2009 keeping him at the club until June 2011 and played four games on loan for League One Oldham Athletic in the 2008-09 season.
He featured prominently in the Boro squads from the start of the 2009-10 campaign, starting against Ipswich and Sheffield Wednesday before returning to the bench as Sean St Ledger made his home debut against West Brom just a few days after signing on loan from Preston North End.
A serious ankle injury suffered in a Reserve game forced him to miss the latter part of the 2009-10 campaign.
