On this day in 1997, Boro and Chesterfield played out a thrilling cup contest at Old Trafford.
Over two decades have passed since the side met in what proved to be a thrilling semi-final.
The game had everything - a sending off, a controversial goal that never was, two spot kicks and an incredible 10-man comeback.
It was the furthest either side had reached in the competition, but Boro were firm favourites to take the chance of a first ever final appearance.
In what could have been a huge giant-killing, the Spireites took a two-goal lead and Boro had Vladimir Kinder red-carded.
Fabrizio Ravanelli and Craig Hignett dramatically brought Boro back into the game then in extra-time Gianluca Festa gave Bryan Robson's team the lead.
Then, in the very last minute, Chesterfield grabbed an equaliser to earn a replay.
Boro, who had also reached the League Cup final earlier in the season, would run out comfortable 3-0 winners in that replay, before heading to Wembley to meet Chelsea in the final.
